Final Fantasy XIII
Not a lot of time for games today, but squeezed in some Final Fantasy XIII. I’ve heard little but negative feedback since it’s been released, with boring story this and stupid system that, and I’m just not jiving on the hate. It’s a bit slow, sure, and a bit archaic, but I really can’t just hate the game. It looks good, the story is a lot deeper than most people give it credit for, and there isn’t nearly as much handholding as people are complaining about. It just sounds like a lot of really bitter gibberish for people who are nostalgic for something that came out 15 years ago. The system has evolved; if you don’t like it, at least stop being bitter about the fact that it has the same name as something you liked. There are a lot of crappy independent games that senselessly rip off the thing you liked.
Okay, enough of that. I ran through some mechanical forests today, fought some animals. It was a little long-toothed, and I got rewarded with a ridiculous little cutscene involving the two characters being catty assholes over what they thought about another character; a character who, for all they know, could be dead. It was just a little bit bitchy, which shows that even on the run from the law, people won’t put their personal differences aside. The game is doing an unusually good job at presenting emotions and those terrifying, isolated moments.
