What I Played Today: May 11

Portal 2

I’m having a board game problem, so instead my friend and I decided to try and take on the Portal 2 coop achievements, and…it didn’t go well. These achievements are all very timing-sensitive and requires everything to go perfectly, and that makes it very hard. We tried to tackle the one where we don’t die once while doing an entire really dangerous level, and we made it through three of them before one misplaced step sends one of us tumbling into a ravine, and we just gave up.

Instead, we went single-player achievement hunting, finding out just how we get those other achievements. I’ve capped all but one, finding all the hidden secrets and such. There was a ratman’s den that I didn’t even notice before in one of the levels, and a zone that lead to a joke that I don’t really get, because I don’t care about Half-Life 2, but hey, nice of them to put that Easter Egg in. Also the hardest one where you have to break all 11 TV screens that [REDACTED] appears on later in the game, which we had to cheat a bit at. Apparently turrets will happily shoot at the screens if set in front of them. Then there was a part where you had to jump to your death for an achievement, and I played all the way because hey, the ending is really entertaining and I wanted to see it again. I learned a couple of neat things that I wouldn’t have found out about if I was playing alone, and it’s just so obvious how much care they’ve put into this.
