Rift
I put in a few hours of Rift, because I received an e-mail telling me that I’ve already paid for another month yesterday, so why the hell not? This snow area is pretty annoying, as the mobs have a tendency to bunch together, and there are a bunch of things going on that make it really hard to do the quests and move on. At one point, a world event came raining down on the town hub I was chilling in, and after I realized there was no way I could take on the huge number of forces pouring into the town, I tried to leave…only to see another crowd of monsters charging across the bridge out of town. I find another exit, and up ran another crowd. I eventually had to die and use a soul walk to get out of town. It was a frustrating experience, but a good frustrating, a real sense of “oh crap am I screwed.”
There was also this weird thing when the hub I was hanging out in suddenly jumped in difficulty five levels for no good reason. At one point, all the quests were level 41, and then after I kill some jerk surrounded by robots, BAM, every quest in the hub is suddenly level 46, and also freaking difficult, including one where you have to defend a bridge. It didn’t make any sense. Am I supposed to come back here later? Because at this point of the game, I’m moving through the levels very slowly, questing through the zones in about four levels a piece. I’m already half-way done with this zone, guys. I want to move on to the desert area already.
