What I Played Today: December 7

Risk Legacy

This is an interesting game! A couple of games of Risk Legacy found us just really tearing it up...literally! I kid, it's a weird visceral experience when you're required by the game to destroy game components. I mean, you paid good money for that, and the game wants you to just rip it up? Crazy. We got set up, putting special abilities on each of the races, and got going. The first game had a lot of back and forth switching of bases, which are pretty important in this game. I eventually used my cards to buy a victory, and got to sign the board, which feels great. In the second game, I was really pushing to make sure one of those hidden envelopes got opened, and so I tried as hard as I could to knock a player out...to my detriment when we just kinda ignored one player and let them take all of Asia, being able to pour troops across the board. But the opening of the envelope felt sooooo good. Having a board game with spoilers is a great idea, and I have a feeling this is going to catch on just as well as the deckbuilding mechanic did four years ago. Calling it now.
