Bioshock Infinite, EVE Online
I am still dicking around on EVE Online, although I finally got a really neat storyline mission, only to realize that OH SHIT my combat skills are not good enough. So...I'm going to get a goddamn cruiser and screw these guys up.
Also a lot of Bioshock Infinite. Here is where the spoilers go.
So anyway, when last I left off, I finally met Elizabeth and decided to highjack this blimp to take her home. But to do that, we need to activate this weird thing with electricity, which I can only do if I have a certain vigor, which is only available in the Hall of Heroes, which just happens to be overrun with Vox Populi forces. So we break into there, and run into a guy I guess the main character knows? This guy was a war hero or something, and is bitter that the Big Bad stole his glory. So after walking through a shitton of racism, and Elizabeth figuring out she is the daughter of the Prophet (come on lady, get with the program), there's a number of protracted fights with the cool alternate reality mechanic. In big rooms, there are a number of tears that have helpful stuff like cover, or an automaton, or a box of medical bags, and you can ask Elizabeth to open up the tear and use the stuff. I like that! It's neat!
So anyway, a lot of cool big fights, and then you finally get to the war hero and he's just...sitting there. I didn't even shoot at him. I don't know what his problem is, but I get a choice to shoot him or spare him. I shoot him, because screw that guy. And then that's the last moral choice I made for what seems like four hours. Weird?
Anyway, we get on the blimp, and Elizabeth notices that I'm not taking her where I promised to take her, and she knocks me over the head with a fire extinguisher. Then...stuff...happens? I don't know, it is really weird, because suddenly the blimp has been taken over by the leader of the Vox Populi and Elizabeth is gone and I have no idea how that even happened. Why would Elizabeth get off the blimp? How did the Vox Populi take over the blimp? The fuck is going on?
But whatever, the leader promises to give me the blimp back if I negotiate with some gunsmith in Finkton. Why this guy will listen to me, I have no fucking idea. I quickly run into Elizabeth again, because otherwise what's the point, and she gets over being mad at me quickly. Then we get into Finkton and see some weird stuff, and then SHIT GETS WEIRD.
Apparently, the gunsmith guy has been killed, but Elizabeth can apparently physically enter a tear and stay in the alternate universe she has opened up. So we go into a universe in which the gunsmith is still alive (kinda) but all his tools have been stolen. So we go to the police station that has impounded the tools, only to realize, "Oh, wait, these are gigantic machines and we're just a dude and a lady, how could we possibly carry these back?" So we enter ANOTHER tear that leads into an alternate universe in which the Vox Populi are in full on revolt. Oh, and also, the main character fought for the revolution and has died already. You even find a voxophone recorded by the main character. It is nuts.
Naturally, the leader of the Vox Populi is going to renege on her previous promise, because that was two universes ago, and she also thinks you're dead. So now all the Vox Populi are shooting you as well. The leader murders the shitty capitalist jerk who I haven't even mentioned because screw that guy, and then Elizabeth kills her because she was about to murder a child. Don't kill children, everyone.
So...all that happened, and we get on the airship, and then Songbird shows up and wrecks our shit. I had forgotten all about Songbird! How did I forget him? So now we are on the main rich island and everyone is fleeing from the Vox Populi. We also figure out who the gentleman and the lady are, suddenly, and learn how Columbia flies, and now we are going to mess up the prophet, because...what else were we going to do?
Then I checked to see how many more chapters I had to go, found it was too many, and stopped playing for the evening. But yeah! It's a pretty fun game, if not for its weird moments, and it has some mechanics that don't show up enough to make sense. Like the code books. I've found two of them. Shouldn't there be more of them? And that middle chapter is just WEIRD, it opens up way too many questions. Like, does the main character even have a contract to get Elizabeth anymore? He's dead in this universe! And what about Elizabeth? Is there another version of her here, or did it get erased somehow? I need to finish this up so I can figure out just what the hell is happening.
