What I Played Today: May 3

Star Fluxx, DC Deckbuilding Game

Game night was weird tonight, because our usual locations were taken over by new Magic release/Free Comic Book Day/Star Wars Day, which is ridiculously stupid. So I went to some dude's house, while other people went to see Iron Man 3. Okay, whatever.

There wasn't a lot of gaming. We ate pizza, and then played Star Fluxx, which...is...fairly competent? Oh man, I feel bad even saying that. I mean, there's so much geek porn and dumb Doctor Who references, but...it still felt put together as a game, you know? Man...praising Fluxx. What am I doing?

Then after a while, played the DC Deckbuilding Game, which is a Cryptozoic game. I do not know what exactly that company does, but it definitely has a unique style that just feels like this particular company. I can't nail it down, exactly, but you can tell it's a Cryptozoic game. (Maybe it has to do with them putting their dumb corporate logo on the card backs despite that having nothing to do with DC Comics? I don't know.) Anyway, the game works, it has a nice tempo, all the cards make sense, it has a lot of nice flavor, and I like DC Comics. It's just as good as Ascension, which is good, because it rips off Ascension so much.
