What I Played Today: January 14

Shadows of Mordor

I have seen a lot of chatter about Shadows of Mordor, and realized that I have been putting it off because I had a bad experiencing trying to kill Pug the Singer, or whatever, and so I jumped back in, only to have THREE bad experiences trying to kill various warchiefs. I kinda hate warchiefs, you guys.

I probably forgot how to play, so my skills were a bit off, but it was just kind of ridiculous. I first went after a ranged-based bodyguard, who was in the middle of a challenge that he completed IMMEDIATELY, so he got an instant boost of power, and then he riddled me with arrows while I tried to take care of the mob that had watched him kill a caragor. Then, after some success dealing with a bunch of scrubs in an arena, I decided to try against a warchief who only had a low-level bodyguard who was vulnerable to pretty much everything (so, easy kill, scare everyone away), only for that bodyguard's hate to trigger a half-second before I launched my attack, negating all his vulnerabilities and making him an unwanted presence in the fight, in addition to like twenty other goddamn orcs. I died to a scrub who instantly became a second-level lieutenant while I was dead.

In my final shitty confrontation, I was in a familiar location and had to deal with a bunch of archers, but the second I launched the attack there were suddenly FIFTEEN orcs nearby that I apparently just missed, as well as another nemesis hanging around who ran across the entire fort to also come kick my ass.

I just...don't understand how I'm supposed to take out these warchiefs when all of them are immune to anything except melee combat and are really strong melee fighters, and they all hang out in strongholds, in which it is nearly impossible to engage them without someone raising an alarm and bringing in a literal mob of uruks fucking up the entire attack. And of course every time I fail, my opponents get stronger! It's almost like real life, by which I mean completely goddamn unfair. I need to learn some tricks.
