Witness, Escape Room
HEY! Did I talk about that time I went to the escape room? I think that was last week. Well, considering I didn't really do anything today, let's talk about that instead, shall we?
So I went to some friends and finally forced someone to play Witness. Witness is a deduction game in which each player is given a piece of the solution to the puzzle, and then has to whisper that information to the person on their right (or left). This happens a couple of times, hopefully circulating all the information around the table so that everyone knows what's going on. The reason it DOESN'T work is because you can't take notes, and people have problems communicating and remembering things they are told! It's fun! After the information is dispensed and you can write down what you remember, you have to answer three questions, and HALF the time it gives you new information, like a jerk. Everyone answers the questions by themselves, and if everyone answers correctly, they win! Otherwise, you all lose. We lost...a couple of times, because nobody could remember any names. But we did manage to win one that required a passcode, so hurray!
Then we went to an Escape Room! An escape room is this new trend where people build a room full of puzzles, and you have to figure out these puzzles in order to escape the room. (You can also just leave, I guess, but that's not fun!) This one was based on a starship theme, in which we are on a crashing ship, and we need to get into the computer, turn it on, then reroute our path to avoid crashing into a sun. There was also a lot of crazy bullshit everywhere in the room! Like a set of lockers, and a medical room with nothing important in it, and this entire book of worthless notes! The actual important things was this sheet in which the passcode was just written on it, a set of keys that did not work properly, and this simple map puzzle with several solutions, but only one acceptable one! Yeah, the game itself was a mess, because literally nothing important worked. BUT I liked the atmosphere. And we complained enough that we can go again for free, so I'll probably be going back in August sometime.
