What I Played Today: August 30

Escape Room

We went back to that escape room, and it...still sucks! Like, it's the little things, but it just continues to bum the shit out of me how they do not have their shit together.

This time there's a monster on board, which we've managed to trap somewhere in the ship, but he's going to get loose...SOON, and we have an hour before he comes and eats our butts. OUR BUTTS! This one had five puzzles, four of which we breezed through like champs, and one that was so fucking obnoxious that we only figured out what we were supposed to do at the end, and we only spent the entire time spinning our wheels because A) There was a typo that was KINDA crucial to figuring out the puzzle, and B) It was stupid, the puzzle was stupid. The point of that particular puzzle was identifying what three chemicals would have a negative effect on the monster and kill it. We are presented with various combinations of chemicals with various effects, none of them completely bad. We got hung up on a few things, like that there were three combos that all started with the same chemical (lazy) and in reality it didn't really matter the order (despite the hint we got stating PRETTY EQUIVALENTLY that it did), it just mattered that we found all the -1 chemicals, and put them in numerical order. We eventually found the chemicals at the last minute, but just had the wrong order, because there was literally no indication what order they needed to be in. (AGAIN, we were told by the guy sitting there that the order was definitely important, which took us down a deadend road for a good five minutes).

SO, that sucked, and then upon thinking I realized there were a lot more problems. Like the one puzzle I latched onto, in which there a number of hidden notes sprinkled around the room, with horoscope symbols, and it turned out a good 80% of the data in that was complete bullshit. The keys we needed were hidden in the books; that is all it was saying. We found them within ten minutes, and continued to search a good ten minutes after that. One puzzle was passed by cheating with mirrors, and another was kinda broken. One of them played the Power Ranger theme, and the last one I solved on the first attempt after maybe four minutes of thinking about it. This...whole thing kinda sucked. I'm glad this time it was free.

BUT, it turns out that there are more of these around the city, and one is literally just down the street. My friend verifies that it's pretty good. I should get a couple of friends and check it out. Now if only I had some friends...
