What I Played Today: March 22

Ghost Stories

I DID IT! I beat Ghost Stories...on the easiest difficulty...and got a total of 3 points...which is pretty pathetic. But I’ve proved that it could be done! Hurray!

Okay, a few notes so that everyone knows what I’m doing. I had the blue guy who could use 2 exorcisms or 2 villagers; the green guy who can reroll dice, the yellow dude who can weaken ghosts, and the red guy who can fly. My strategy with the blue was constantly getting the two buddhas, so that I could blast ghosts from space whenever I wanted. I tried to keep all the boards clear as best I could, and got really lucky on a couple of rolls. If something would do a lot of damage each turn, I would drop a bomb on it; weaken it and get someone who could roll twice to kill it. I made sure that I used the yin/yang only when I was sure to get it back right away, so that I had it at the end. That helped a lot.

The Big Boss was the Hope Killer. Oh god the Hope Killer. It requires 8 total icons in the exorcism, 2 of each type. Luckily, I was in the exact right place to handle this. I had each character use the tea house to get two tao tokens, and after a round of that, bunched all my guys (at least all of them still alive) at the tile in front of the Hope Killer, and in a single damn roll, got two white sides (wilds my brother!) and he was out for the count. Boy-ya! It was really tight, to be sure, but I had maybe another turn before I would have died, which was helpful. It sucks that I scored so low, and I couldn’t imagine playing a harder version of the game, but it just feels good to prove that it can be done!
