Final Fantasy XIII, Robot Wants Kitty
Got some more time on Final Fantasy 13, and the gang has finally gotten together and the game has kicked off, as I’ve got magic now! And access to the level-up grid, which feels a lot like the sphere grid, only without as much freedom. But it’s still early, I’m sure it’ll open up here soon. The fights have gotten a lot more interesting; I now have options besides ‘attack the guy and hope he dies,’ which is great, I can’t wait to see more.
The game has a lot of cutscenes though. There was a point where I fought a boss fight, saw something TERRIFYING happen, was asked to save, watched a three minute cutscene, and then asked to save again! I’m glad that you’re giving me so many opportunities, but jeez guys, at least make sure I DO something before giving me another save point. Hopefully there will be a lot less jumping around going out here.
Also, screw Wikipedia. I was checking how old all these characters were (for completely non-creepy reasons), and the one source I know of that would just tell me without a bunch of fluff is the Wikipedia. So, I go on there, and it spoils in not uncertain terms the status of one of the characters before I even knew what was going to happen to the characters. I was a little miffed, mainly because I was going into this pretty dry. BUT, it did allow me to catch a little gameplay issue that supports the spoiler, which was dash cunning of them. I just wish I didn’t catch it until two weeks from now.
I got bored and played a flash game for half an hour, and played Robot Wants Kitty, which was described as a Metroidvania, and sure, yeah, I guess. It was a bit short, and it was that damn pixel style that’s really popular with lazy designers. But it was fine, a silly little game, and you get to watch a robot hug a cat when you win. Hurray.
