Civilization V
I played Civilization for a full episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000 without even trying. I had been neglecting this game, which is all manners of unfortunate considering what I did for an opportunity to play this, and so I booted it up, started a small game on a random map, and I got stuck with archipelago. I don’t really like it when everyone is divided by islands, because it kills conflict until late in the game, especially considering there are no good transport ships until the Renaissance. But it’s letting me focus on my goal of collecting social policies (which are awesome), and getting by without worrying about building up troops, because my home island is only about 14 hexes big. You can’t really mass an army against me in that space.
I am experiencing some odd graphic glitches, where sometimes troops and cities will stay on the screen when I’m suddenly shunted to another part of the map. One time I was looking at a city state and the game suddenly jumped back to my city, but their troops were still on my screen, so I panicked when there appearing to be a legion positioned right outside my city until I realized the problem. This is probably an issue with running it on DirectX 9, and the not-completely high-end video card I have in the machine. Not a big deal, but still distracting.
