What I Played Today: July 24

Scotland Yard

I managed to lose a game of Scotland Yard as Mr. X...I thought I was cleverer than I was, but I ended up trapped in the corner fairly quickly when the guessed my strategy and managed to ring around me. If I had gone the other way, I could have slipped their net, but...nope.

Also...I hate the Internet, for no reason that I am willing to explain.

What I Played Today: June 7

Scotland Yard, Tzol'kin, Walking Dead Card Game

I got to be Mr. X in Scotland Yard and man is that a heck of a lot of fun. It is SO GREAT to be doing exactly what my opponents are not expecting me to do, and whenever I revealed every five moves the feelings was always "Ah shit, how is he over there?" After my fifth reveal, when I was literally revealed halfway across the map from all the police, they said, "Let's call it, he won." Hehehe. It did require taking some ridiculous risks though, including standing within one move of two of my opponents, but it in a place they weren't expecting me to be. But yeah...Mr. X. Goddamn great.

Then a game of Tzol'kin in which I basically dicked around. I did not do well. I came in dead last and although I did stuff, none of those things were worth any points. The guy who never gained an extra worker scored higher than me, for Christ's sake. Well...at least I had fun. And the group I was playing with played at a great clip, I like that.

I played the Walking Dead Card Game, both versions, and...I like them both! It's a game that mixes skill and luck pretty well, and if the game didn't include a ton of gross zombies, I would totally pick this up immediately! It makes a great case for itself! Numbers!

What I Played Today: June 5

Lemonade Stand, String Railway, Scotland Yard

At the game store, I played Lemonade Stand, which is boring and terrible. Okay, not that bad, but what can I say about this dumb game.

Then a game of String Railway, which I am not very fond of! Because the downtime is absolutely terrible, especially with five. Which is what we have. Ug the downtime. The game is played with strings, each player draws a station, places the station, and then puts down their string railway to make connections and get points. If you cross another string, you lose a point. Except we don't play that way. What we do is draw a station, then spend five minutes laying down and picking it up trying to manipulate it in such a way to get the most points, then maybe sliding that station you got under the string. And when EVERYONE does this...this game just takes too long. And of course I didn't win, because I play like you are supposed to play.

Then a game of Scotland Yard, which is a deduction game in which you are trying to find where one player is moving hidden around the board while everyone else is trying to catch that player. Occasionally the hidden player has to reveal their location. As the detective, I think we got lucky because the hidden player didn't use their hidden move when I thought she should have, making it easy to find her, and she eventually got trapped in a park. But I want to be the hidden player so much...I get to wear a hat!
