What I Played Today: April 26

No More Heroes 2

I played a little bit of everything, but I only made headway on No More Heroes 2, in which I killed some guys, met somebody ridiculous, and then killed him too. I really felt off the way the boss fight went. I meet the guy I’m sent to kill, who gets his ridiculous intro as you expect, and then suddenly he’s in a goddamn giant robot. Instead of shrugging and saying, “Well, that was weird,” Travis Touchdown summons his own giant robot and they fight!

Normally, I’d accept this kind of ridiculous grandstanding as just another Suda51 peculiarity, just another thing he does, but as the second true boss fight of the game, it just comes off as ridiculously goofy. Why does this football player have a giant robot? How does that make any goddamn sense? It just reads as ludicrous.

However, my question on starting at Rank 51 has been answered, you do randomly jump around the chart. I went from 50 to 25, after standing on the corpses of some random cheerleaders. Hey, why not? The art style continues to impress me though, working with the limited abilities of the Wii to create a nice cel-shaded style. Everyone moves dynamically, and looks interesting, if subdued, which works nicely. Now if only the plot didn’t just randomly jump around.
