What I Played Today: August 28

Little King's Story

A fair amount of dicking around today, I played a lot, but the only thing of note is a game I rented Little King's Story. It’s a town management game dipped in overwhelming cutesiness. Everyone is a Chibi and all the music is in the public domain, like a 1950's Disney cartoon. But the gameplay is intriguing...you play a king who tried to expand his little kingdom by recruiting his citizens to jobs like farmers and soldiers and such to dig up treasure and defeat monsters. (The monsters are called UMA’s, for some completely unexplained reason.)

It’s a nice little resource game, in which you try to handle your civilization. The amount of ridiculousness is easily overlooked, and I think I might follow through with the ending. The only complaint I have is that there is a weird marriage system, in which your citizens will fall in love and you are responsible for marrying them off, but there is no way to tell if they are in love unless you pay attention to the newsflash about it. How will I get my children who can climb up trees to get my treasure? How?!
