Monsterpocalypse, Super Hero Squad Card Game
About time I finally got around to playing the games that I bought at PAX, and I still like them. I might even consider buying more. Monsterpocalypse hit the table, and after a lot of deliberation, I think I understand how to play. The fact that everything is miniaturized and there are a lot of abilities on each monster makes it difficult to tell what is going on. It took us a long time to figure out that the ability on the Cthulhu monster only activates when he punches me, meaning that he regains way more life he should have, and the fact that there are what seems like fifty different abilities makes a bit tense. But once you get down to it and figure out what each dude does, it can be a lot of fun. The monsters tend to bunch up and fight, which sucked for my character because his primary awesome ability required him to be able to charge, but I like it. It’s a nice, high-concept game.
Also played a couple of games of the Super Hero Squad Card Game, and man I need access to the real game. It’s a real simple game, but I can see a lot of interesting combinations being put into the deck creation, which is problematic when you only have about 60 cards. It’s fun, the abilities are cool, the fact that you have a tough of choice of either potentially taking full damage or losing choice during your next turn…it’s a great little game, and I want more.
