What I Played Today: February 21

Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood, Back to the Future

I got an RPG in the mail, and even though it’s on the DS (strike one) and about Sonic the Dang Hedgehog (strike two), I tried it anyway because it was developed by Bioware. I was immediately annoyed by the second character who joins your party, who immediately reminds Sonic that she has a boyfriend named Dexter who lives in Canada. I already hate this character, and I don’t care at all about any of the conflict, especially since it revolves around Sonic the Dang Hedgehog. The turn-based combat is basic, although they screwed me by having a hard mandatory fight right after a boss fight, so I quit playing.

Also started the Back to the Future game, Chapter 2, and I am a bit cranky about the opening puzzles. They move too quickly, and they are too simple. Move very slowly around the car, just narrowly avoid getting seen by myself a couple of times, run into a building. Where are the puzzles? Why the rush? They’ve designed these games so that I can’t fail, so stop with the false drama. When I know I can’t fail if I keep trying, it takes a lot of tension out of these quick-paced dramatic scenes. So give me some clever puzzles to figure out instead.
