What I Played Today: April 14

Kongregate, Kinectimals

I played a lot of Kongregate today, to see what the latest nonsense was. There is a new jmtb02 joint, about elephants (of course), in which you are wandering around shooting guys and doing quests to get a hat back. The only thing that raised my eyebrows was the leveling system, in which you walked along a grid, very similar to Final Fantasy X. But it was short and stupid, and I finished it. Also one involving llamas running, with the obvious lie that llamas can only see in color when they are running at 50 kilometers an hour. So you have to run and jump your llama without falling into a bit, with the environment eventually lightening into full color. Neat, I suppose.

Also Upgrade Complete 2, which is a goofy game in which you need to upgrade everything in the game. Absolutely everything, including the menus, the graphics, the options available. The game itself isn’t very good, it’s just the joy of seeing the stupid jokes they made. There was one upgrade that promised to upgrade your heart rate. So I, like an idiot, bought it and sat staring at the screen wondering what on Earth they were talking about. Five seconds later, a loud sting sounded and a flashing face filled the screen, terrifying the crap out of me. I felt like an idiot falling for it. But once you upgrade enough, the game just gets tedious.

Also played the demo for Kinectimals, a video game for children. I found that out when I suddenly found myself spinning on my hands and knees in my living room. It’s a cute game, to be sure, and the reading of your movements is cool. I did like teaching the little cat tricks, even though cats don’t do tricks, but when I found myself being forced to race cars and kick soccer balls, I bored quickly and went to hide in front of my computer with my dignity.
