What I Played Today: April 4

Rift

Some guy keeps on playing Rift. I can’t believe this guy, running around, killing undead for reasons he doesn’t actually care about. He’s also doing some crafting, which is about as dull as it usually is (although pretty much every craftable item is magic, which makes it easy to work with your enchanting craft). Then he noticed there was a demand for tanks, because, again, they designed the game just stupid enough that each calling still falls into the usual tank-healer-DPS role, so only one calling can perform a given function effectively. Why wouldn’t they have each calling handle each role in its own unique way? You already designed 36 damn classes, why are 75% of those only good at DPS? Come on!

Anyway, this convinced that guy to start a warrior character, and this class is certainly interesting. For some reason, their attack abilities grant them attack points, which they can gain three of, which they can spend to use special attacks. How this differs from the rogues, this guy didn’t really understand; apparently they carry over between fights, which may be the only difference. The DPS is the usual business, but the tanking classes have a lot of weirdness to them; like the ability each one has that increases their health by small steps, no questions asked. He chose one that focuses on shields, and shields are just really awesome in this, as each time you block you get some nice spike damage. Considering you block maybe 30% of the time, enemies are dropping really fast.

Oh, and this guy was me the whole time!
