What I Played Today: October 19

Batman: Arkham City

I have the new Batman! It's as good as the old Batman. A section of the city has been cordoned off to hold all the prisoners and basically let them run wild and form gangs and stuff, free to their own devices. Why this is better than, say, keeping them locked into cells and stuff is beyond me, but it makes for a relatively decent story conceit. As Bruce Wayne, Batman is kidnapped and dragged into Arkham City, and immediately breaks out and suits up. Now he must whatever I'm not spoiling anything. The Joker's involved, the plot of the last game is important, you knew this already. But it works really well. You have a lot of the same tricks as last time, and the arsenal keeps growing. The game is a bit tutorial heavy; it's still demanding that I hit specific buttons at certain times even three hours in. I'm getting the hang of it, game! But the combat is fun and fast, the stealth sections are fun and varied, with a lot of neat tricks available, and while it's a little tough to get around, considering that half of Arkham City is apparently underwater (what?), it's a great play, and I will continue to play it!
