Assassin’s Creed: Revelations
I continue to try and get through this thing. It is tougher going than I expected, because I am pretty bored with the story. There’s no real conflict here; at least in the first two featuring Ezio he had a villain that he was chasing after, someone who responsible for really screwing the assassins over. Here, he’s just kinda hanging on in Constantinople, hunting down some boring laserdiscs. Searching out Altair’s old eight-tracks isn’t exactly riveting, and the Altair memories are basically filling in blanks that nobody cares about. (Oh no, some guy we don’t know or recognize dicked around with the Apple of Eden and almost died? Well, let me get my pants on!) It doesn’t help that the way history is taught in the Western World just kinda turns a huge blind eye to the part of the world that we’re exploring, so that I have no context at all, unlike the other games. I mean, I think I’ve heard the name Suleiman before, but I could not tell you why he’s important. Oh, only the most important figure in the entire Ottoman empire? Thanks a lot, Mr. Jorgensen. That might have been interesting to learn. But I’m sure watching that video about the Civil War a third time was a more useful application of our time.
