What I Played Today: September 22

Pathfinder

Someone who goes to the game nights said I'm going to say a few months ago that he was going to start a Pathfinder game, and I expressed interested. After hearing nothing about it for a while, he told me Friday that it would be cool if I wanted to join, and I said okay. So I went to play Pathfinder. I'm sorry, D&D 4th Edition. The sorcerors in Pathfinder are too cool.

So, I rolled up a sorceror, giving him the Aberrant bloodline, which means that he will slowly turn into some creepy Dhalsim. I picked a couple of spells, noted my ability to shoot acid from my fingertips (so cool, 7 times a day!), and then proceeded to be a non-consequential member of the party. My build just wasn't that impressive; there is one spell I know that I can't use properly, and my acid rays never ever hit. I guess I just got unlucky, but I sure felt like deadweight.

Anyway, in the adventure so far, the team is working for some lord (I was never told why), and they need to clear out kobolds from a cave near the ocean. So we go down to the ocean, crawl into a cave, and a kobold pops out and blasts water at us, sending me flying into the ocean. Fun! Then a big fight happens, then we find some traps, and then there's a hostage situation. The kobolds held some peasants hostage. Really. We eventually talk them down and I loop around back to try and trick the kobolds, and cast color spray. And...one of the kobolds saves, and then they kill all the hostages. I felt really bad about this. But eventually everything was murdered and the evil altar was dismantled. Then the paladin went swimming for some reason. I guess to get more loot? I don't know, it was weird.

Then we reached a natural stopping point, and kept going for some reason, and this is where my pointlessness really came to a head. We go to another cave, and the entrance is this supersteep ramp. So, we set up a rope to help guide us down, and start climbing into the cave, and suddenly they cast grease underneath our feet. So, I stumble down the cave, and start moving slowly, when the kobolds at the bottom, who have fire, start making demands.

Obviously, we ignore their commands, but also, instead of actually...moving, we just stand there and wait for them to set us all on fire. Well, to set me on fire, since everyone else was out of range. So, I ignite, tumble down the corridor, have a bunch of water thrown on me, and stand up, singed but happy, when I get hit with four crossbow bolts and fall unconscious. Whoops! I'm healed and it turns out okay, but I knew things would be going south the second we decided to keep going.

But I like the casual style of the DM, and how creative his scenarios are, so I'll be sticking around for that. There is a lot of table chatter, a bit more than I'd like, but maybe the dynamic is different when the full group is there. I don't know, I'll show up again.
