What I Played Today: January 30

San Juan, Hey That's My Fish, Karaoke Karaoke Revolution

I almost played Artemis today, but then I didn't, so there's that. Instead I played San Juan and Hey, That's My Fish, which was something, I guess.

Then I got to sing songs! Karaoke Karaoke Revolution: American Idol edition. It was ridiculous. But, I like to sing, and there were some great moments, like the girl who nobody knew had perfect pitch who aced a song right away, and myself almost acing a song except that while I was singing, someone was screwing around on their phone and somehow managed to connect it to the TV, and the guy who could not sing breaking down while singing "Sweet Dreams," or the singing battle in which I and my opponent did perfectly until the last phrase, so it ended in a tie. What I'm saying is, a great time was had by most! Except for people who refuse to sing songs. Why are you so anti-song, you people?

What I Played Today: November 28

San Juan, Race for the Galaxy, Alcatraz

Game store, played San Juan because I heard it was good. Turns out it's good because it is pretty much Race for the Galaxy, only slightly different. You choose roles, you build stuff into your tableau, etc. The only real difference is there's no victory points, so trading works different, but yeah. Really really similar.

So we played a game of Race for the Galaxy as well. It was pretty good.

Then forced people to play Alcatraz. Alcatraz is kind of a cooperative game, only someone will lose, based on how things go. You go around collecting goods and completing missions, although each turn someone is the scapegoat, who can't complete missions and can really tank them if he feels like it. I don't know, it's a weird game, and it feels like it will hurt a lot of feelings. We had a point where it was someone's "turn" to be the scapegoat, and he scuttled one of the missions we wanted to achieve. I ended up on the winning team even though I was the scapegoat at the time because I had the needed materials, but...it's needlessly vicious for no reason.
