Pocket Battles, Warhammer: Invasion, Rock Band
I played some card games tonight, including my recent acquistion, Pocket Battles. It’s a small warlike game, with tiny cards representing the combatants. You group them together and wage battle against your opponent. It’s a pretty basic and simple to the point of being fun wargame. The cool part is that the damage is based not on rolling the highest number, but by matching the roll shown on the card. So, you can choose between a massive amount of damage but low hit chance, or try to make almost every roll hit at least for one point of damage. Cool and small, if the strategy does take a bit to sort out.
They also finally released the base sets for the Elves in the Living Card Game Warhammer: Invasion. The new factions have had a small number of cards before, but now there are enough to play with. I like the feel of the new set; they feel powerful enough to actually compete against the other decks, and also feel like two sides of the same coin. The High Elves can keep the board clear and heal their units, while the Dark Elves are able to slice down individual units and stall until they gain enough strength to fight. I look forward to play more now that there’s a complete set of factions.
Oh, and played some Rock Band. Hurray Rock Band!
