What I Played Today: July 11

Civilization 5

I've been putting in a lot of time in with Civilization 5, trying to figure out all these new systems. The easy way to get gold seems to have been replaced with trade routes, making having money even more difficult than before, since trade routes are pretty vulnerable. I also finally figured out how Great Works work, you have to have somewhere to put them in your civilization, and people will come visit your civilization and apparently be like, "Hey, yeah, our civilization sucks, let's all be like these guys." Which...might explain weeaboos.

Anyway, I started a game with the Mayans, which have an insane ability, in which, once they research Theology, they get a Great Person at the end of every Long-Count period, every 394 years. Now, if you know anything about Civ, you know that the first 200 turns or so tick by at 25 years at a time, meaning you are getting a Great Person every 15 turns or so, which is great. So I quickly researched that, and it literally changes the year indicator to a long-count calendar, which is awesome. One issue though: going straight for theology means that everything else suffers, and I am quickly going broke.
