What I Played Today: July 6

Final Fantasy XIV

I had been flirting with the idea of starting another MMO for some dumb reason, probably because I think I have too much free time. So I started downloading Final Fantasy XIV last night, and I figure I can run a free trial...but I can't, so I just buy it with the $20 that was already on my account. Whatever. So I start it up and am ready to plan and find out it needs to download like eight more gigs! Okay then!

But I do find a way to get it to download at a reasonable speed (ethernet cord across the room) and was able to get into the game and make a new character. So I made the tallest, darkest lady possible, and gave her a set of brass knuckles, and got ready to go. The game has a lot more cutscenes and story beats than I would expect, but it was easy to pick up, easy to move around in, and the controls for a game controller are actually pretty slick. I think I might enjoy this.
