What I Played Today: March 13

Dominion, Rock Band, Final Fantasy XIII, Overlord

I played a small amount of Xbox today, spent about thirty minutes on Final Fantasy and got greeted with the stupidest reason ever to split a party. But it did introduce me to some new classes, and it’s become very clear that each party member will be different from one another, so that’s nice. Hopefully one day I’m actually get a chance to switch around my party.

I ran around some more in Overlord, killing hobbits. Sure, they call ‘em halflings, but man they are hobbits. I got stuck on a part where all my imps were entranced by some fool music and I couldn’t break the spell, even though I kept trying to kill the guy with the fiddle. Kinda silly. Also, the Pikmin routine is becoming more and more pronounced; there are even fat enemies who jump up and squash your imps.

I went over to a friend’s and played some Rock Band as well. We got some songs off the new Rock Band Network, in which the bands can create their own songcharts from the songs they own, and I must say, it feels like a professional job. I couldn’t tell the difference. The songs we played were a bit too forthcoming with the star power, but otherwise I’m a fan of it. It’s good that bands can get their own name out there through this...hopefully they keep the quality up.

We then played some Dominion. The first game went easy for me, using the Lookout to pull the junk out of my deck and using card drawing to pull the gold into my hand. Everyone else was slowed down by the torturers on the board. The second game had the Black Market, which proved itself a delicious temptation, and also a wrong one, as the two high scorers in that game didn’t bother with it. The winner used a throne room/bureaucrat strategy to pull a lot of cards into his deck and then used gardens to win. It was a good strategy, one that didn’t depend too much on the coin you had in your hand.
