Infinite City, Tikal, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories
It was game night, and I showed up just in time to get in on a game of Infinite City, a tile-placement game in which you play the ability whenever you place a tile. It’s simple, and I keep getting screwed throughout, people playing just the right cards to ensure that I lost. But it’s a nice filler game if you have enough space to handle it, and the materials are good and solid.

I also played Tikal, a game that sits firmly in the top 100 games on most people’s list, and I must say that I totally didn’t get it. I understood what I was supposed to do once I started playing, but I didn’t understand from the get-go, and I got some real crappy draws that prevented me from getting into any decent victory point zones. Each turn, you draw a tile to fill out the map, and can then take ten action points worth of actions to try to score the most points. You can either try to control the zones around the various temples, or attempt to get the treasures and make matching sets. The temples are harder to control, but the treasures are more expensive and worth less. It was interesting, if a bit heavy of the downtime because most people were overthinking their actions.

My GameFly envelopes FINALLY arrived, and I got Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. I started playing and was immediately creeped out, because the beginning sequence has that “something’s going to go terribly wrong” aura around it. Sure enough, you crash your car and have to wander around a town in the snow while noticing creepy things. There are a sufficient amount of creepy things, to be sure, although I’m not sure if the analysis the game is supposed to be doing on me is working. I’m not finding anything more creepy than I normally would, and the monsters seem pretty plain. Maybe I’m boring.
