What I Played Today: February 18

Buffalo Bison, King's Guard, Rebuild

I played a couple of crappy games today, for no real good reason. Just stretching for those Kongregate points. One in particular, King's Guard, took all the worst elements of tower defense games and match-3 games and combined them into one stupid mess. There are some guys marching from the left, and there’s the city on the right, in which you can match 3 to get a small amount of gold or heal a given tower. If you match 4 or 5, you get a token that powers up one of the towers for a small amount of time, or lets you place another tower. It’s…pretty bad, and not any fun. I can’t even understand the rationale of having a tower defense game where you have no control over what you do during the game. It’s all determined by the match 3 puzzle, which may or may not give you the bricks you need.

Also played a strategy game about zombies, Rebuild, which is way easier than they thought it would be (you never run out of food, and there’s very little chance someone will die). And a game where a luchador is trying to escape from the land of the gummi bears…by being launched. It was competent, although it place three huge walls that prevent you from moving to the next zone until you play a certain amount of the game. Kind of annoying, and one of the achievements didn’t take the first time.

  1. I found Burrito Bison the other day as well and played for what seemed like hours. Easily the best of the launcher-style games I've ever played.
