What I Played Today: March 14

Rift

Early to bed tonight, but once more into the Rift. I tried a new calling to see what it was like, and I’ve got to say I didn’t really like it. The rogue is mostly a damage dealing calling, and to me there is nothing more boring than a pure DPS class. I had three different classes, except every one had the same starting ability; an attack that adds a small amount of damage and a combo point. This is boring, and while the abilities start to vary as you build each class, giving me three perfectly equivalent abilities gives me a lot of pointless to deal with. Also, one of the classes is supposed to be heavily armored and supposed to do a small amount of tanking, but the bonuses it gets are pretty insignificant, and its main method of boosting armor coming after you generate combo points and only lasting at most 60 seconds. It’s just not as fun to play.

It is interesting that the two factions enter the same area after the opening zone, divided only by a broken bridge. You can literally wave to members of the other faction at a certain point. I don’t think you can swim across the water, because that would negate the point, but it really hammers home that there’s an actual war between these two sides, instead of mutual ambivalence you see in WoW or whatever.
