What I Played Today: April 10

Guild Wars

Today was the day that they finally let me prepurchase Guild Wars 2. Why would I do that, sight unseen? Because I’m pretty sure I’m going to really like this game, and also because it gets me instant access to the beta weekends coming up, so pretty pumped about that.

But then I remembered that I had the first game, and thought, “Wait, is that one still good?” Well, I guess. The content I’m at is also ridiculously hard. I had forgotten where I left off, halfway through the first Guild Wars Beyond event. I also remembered why I quit, because the mission they send you on is obscene. At least 40 unique multigroup scenarios, all of them you can wipe on if you’re not careful, and all of these groups just hanging out together. But I finally knuckled down and did some dramatic pulling and cursed at Anton a few dozen times (that guy would not stop dying) and eventually I finished it! That was a ridiculous bore!

High on beating that nonsense, I felt confident and moved to the next quest, which was terrible for different reasons. It was shorter, sure, and getting to the boss fight was pretty easy, but once there, oh boy. This guy was surrounded by 50 guys, who seemed to stream into the center arena in an endless stream. So after fighting these groups for nearly 20 minutes (pull and hope, pull and hope), I finally start attacking him, and he starts calling reinforcements! But I finally burned that dick down, and I was one running mission and a big dumb fight away from completing it and getting a fancy new weapon to put up in my great hall, which will neat me some cool stuff in Guild Wars 2. (That was a long sentence.) But when they say it’s a running mission, they mean it. You need to bring speed boost abilities or you are screwed. And…I didn’t, so I was screwed. Meh, I’ll do it tomorrow.
