What I Played Today: November 15

Dust: An Elysian Tail, Rift, FTL

I went ahead and passed Dust today, because I remembered I forgot to do that! I'm not a huge fan of the ending. Lot of shouting. Also, I had to start over once and level up a couple of times because the final boss has what feels like a dozen stages and I forgot to buy enough resurrection stones before going into it. ANYWAY!

Also logged into Rift, because I remember that they released their expansion this week. So, had to do a three gig update for that. New background though, that's neat. I'm still mulling considering the expansion, especially considering the big things (player housing, new class, level 60) are available in the vanilla version of the game. Come on guys, give me some incentive. Anyway, all my classes reset, so I don't even know how to play anymore. It's not something you can jump right into, you know?

Also got exploded in space in FTL. Man, will I ever get those other spaceships?

What I Played Today: September 15

FTL, Dust: An Elysian Tail, Rock Band Blitz, Magic: The Gathering, Coloretto

So, I downloaded this game that I had been anxiously waiting for for what feels like six months, FTL, and it turns out that is actually fantastically good. You are in charge of a ship that is jumping from place to place, running into dudes, fighting other spaceships, and often exploding. While I do see a bit of repeating in the events (stupid six-legged horses), it is pretty entertaining. Trying to unlock each ship and layout is going to consume me for a while.

Tried to pass Dust, failed. I got to the point of no return, and I was just not strong enough. There are so many dang dudes to fight.

Also played some Rock Band Blitz. I took the advice offered in Thursday's post (you can look it up, I'm not your mom), and I was doing okay. I was finding that if I go hogwild with the bottle rocket, I score as many points with my special as I'm getting for playing normally. I'm pretty sure I gold starred something. And yet, still behind that one guy. (shakes fist at that one guy)

Also probably played a game of Magic: The Gathering against the computer, and then played a game of Coloretto online with strangers. Things got weird late into the night.

What I Played Today: September 6

Dust: An Elysian Tail, Persona 4 Arena, Splice

I remembered I was pretty near the end of Dust, so I tried to play it, and I got...frustrated. The missions they gave me seemed like busy work, easy to do and pretty pointless, and then I had to fight an army, and for some reason I can't hit the soldiers head on, and there are these really out-of-place looking hovercrafts. I don't know, I got distracted.

So I read more of Persona 4 Arena! First I tried to play through the Arcade version of the game, and was doing okay until I ran into Aigis, who kicked me all the way around. Palladium is tough to break through, mainly because it's a huge shield. So I did Kanji's story. Apparently Kanji is an idiot. He falls asleep and just accidentally falls into the TV world, and then thinks he's dreaming for his first three fights. At that point, you can either have him snap out of it, or go full moron and just keep charging forward, in which case he unthinkingly beats the crap out of the final boss quickly and easily, and then expects to wake up and everyone is mad at him for being such a dumdum, while I assume he has a mental breakdown afterwards. It was pretty funny. But I did go back and get to the "To Be Continued" spot, in which Kanji runs into his gay shadow. I went online to find out exactly what I have to do to keep going without giving anything away, and it seems straightforward enough.

Also someone mentioned Splice somewhere, and I downloaded the demo, and thought, "This sure is a puzzle game alright," and then the demo was over, and I did not think I needed to buy it. The end!

I finally figured out what the hell is going on in Dust. They had a full-motion cutscene and everything. I won't be telling you, because that is rude.

Then, instead of actually getting on with the quest, I screwed around some more and tried to find all those friends. I found another duck, which I thought was lame, until I went back to my place I realized that the ducks had teamed up and become awesome duck DJs. I also found some guy from a game that I mildly remember exists? I don't know, he seems neat. I still can't get the Kid though. Stupid yellow resonance pillar.

I climbed up a mountain, it was not super exciting. Although the sword got mad and was snippy at Dust, which was kinda hilarious.

I have really started kicking tail in Dust. Those zombies have exactly nothing on me. I just kept on hammering against the evil forces, and I eventually fought a ghost! He was a pain in the butt! I downed so many mysterious wall chickens during that fight. I also managed to get like 15 treasure keys somehow, so that's good, because there are so many more chests to open.

I've having fun.

Dust: An Elysian Tail

I got really sucked into Dust today. I just started playing and I did not want to stop. The game is pretty good! It looks great, with some fluid animation and some great graphics; the gameplay is a lot of fun, and the many things there are to do is pretty great. The storytelling is alright, good characters, although they do talk too much. Just, way too much. Every quest giver must provide their life story before continuing. But I really like this game; it's done quite well, and I am going to keep playing it until I am done playing it.

Get it? Tail? Huh?

I spent a few minutes starting this game, because I hear it is amazing, but I wasn't super into it, mainly becuase I kept getting distracted by Fidget's hips. Why are they there? Who is that for? What is happening?
