What I Played Today: January 9

Love Letter, Red Dragon Inn, Sentinels of the Multiverse, Avalon

Love Letter is a cute little game, mostly luck-based, but with some deduction and so forth, and I like it. The game ended up going to the same two people constantly, which was weird, but I dig it. Short and fun. I wish it wasn't sold out absolutely everywhere.

Red Dragon Inn is a game about drinking. It is always ridiculous, but I ended up winning. Hurray.

A five player game of Sentinels of the Multiverse, against Grand Warlord Voss, and we managed to win somehow, despite our spike damage player seemed to be screwing around and almost wasted his finishing move on a minion with one hit point. (No what are you doing.) We thought we were doomed when a card would have dumped a metric ton on minions onto the field, but we managed to survive the experience, and then we won. As Visionary, I was, of course, useless.

Then we went to a bar and played a good many games of Avalon, and I was the absolute worst. Every time I was either Percival or Morgana, so I had some inside knowledge of who Merlin might be, and every single time I was dead wrong. Man I am stupid. I managed to lose every game. Just me. Everyone else at least won one, but me, I sucked completely. Our last game I thought one of our players was trying to double-bluff us (I may have had a drink), when really the person who was obviously Merlin was actually Merlin. Why didn't I just try to kill that person?

The Resistance, Falling, Tooth and Nail, The Red Dragon Inn

Game night! Some people who I like wanted to try out The Resistance, so we played a five-player game, which was won by the spies, because of course it was. Spies win five-player Resistance, that's the rules. Then numerous games of Falling, which I played as calmly as possible, because I refuse to get excited by Falling.

On the main course, I had acquired a game called Tooth and Nail...somehow. I'm not even sure, I guess I signed up for the Kickstarter? Man, I hope it wasn't expensive, because I'm not enthused. It's this weird game where you have cards that do abilities and stuff, and you attack your opponent, but your opponent doesn't really have any defenses or ways to stop you, and it just feels mechanical and lame. Maybe it's just the standard game, but it doesn't play great with three players. Artwork is fun though. I like the artwork.

Then a game of The Red Dragon Inn, which is always whatever. I lost during a drinking contest. It happens.

What I Played Today: December 17

Sequence, Red Dragon Inn 3

I went to a Christmas party, in which there were promises of games, and then only one happened. That game was Red Dragon Inn 3, which was okay! It's a game in which you pretend to be just hanging out in a fantasy inn with your adventuring bros. Each player has their own deck of actions they can do, and you try to stave off blacking out from drinking too much. It's kinda goofy. I hadn't played this particular iteration of the game, which adds some complex mechanics to each player. I had the paladin who had a piety meter, that went down when she acted poorly and up when she acted good. She dealt more damage when her piety was low, but had better healing when her piety was high. It was interesting, but she blacked out early when everyone started spiking her drinks.

I also finally downloaded and played Sequence, which is a rhythm game with roleplaying elements. There are three different fields that you have to switch between, one representing the enemy's attacks, one representing your attacks, and one that you need to occasionally use to replenish your mana supply. It's pretty interesting, although a bit grindy, as you need to craft pretty much all your items with random drops, so you'll be repeating a few battles. Also, the cutscenes are dumb and snarky.
