What I Played Today: September 9

Rhythm Heaven Fever, Persona 4 Arena

I wanted to make sure I hooked up my Wii, so I played a few games of Rhythm Heaven Fever. It's still a rhythm game alright, although for some reason one of the levels won't let me pass it because I miss one note. ONE NOTE. Come on, guys!

Then I read a whole lot of Persona 4 Arena. I found out some interesting things about the world of Persona, specifically, that after the misadventures of Persona 3, Mitsuru started a government organization specifically to fight shadows. Which is...holy shit, definitely something worth talking about. Mainly, where the hell were these people during the events of Persona 4? They acknowledge that they knew there was shadow nonsense happening in Inaba during the time, yet they didn't move on it? Were some of the people I ran into actually Shadow Operatives? I have so many questions!

But I can't get any answers until after I play through Labrys's chapter, which is long as hell. It started with Labrys being activated and having her ridiculous accent, and sees her fighting other robots of her call number in a battle arena. She makes a friend with another robot, and you know exactly where it is going (heck, you probably knew when you first met Labrys in Yu's story,) but it makes you sit through the entire thing. Eventually she goes crazy and you learn some more facts about how this particular robot girl works and she gets shut down and yadda yadda, and it was past midnight by the time I got to the point where Labrys has finally caught up to the current timeline, and I just had to stop. Of course, for the whole two hours you are going through Labrys's story, there is no gameplay. Just text after text after text. This is a superweird thing to see in a fighting game. Superweird period. Whose idea was this, and why did I enjoy sitting through this?

Rhythm Heaven Fever, Terraria

I made it to the end credits of Rhythm Heaven Fever! Apparently I was literally right there, all I had to do was pass one more level. Of course there's still more to do, more levels etc., but it was cool to see the end, and figure out what everyone's name was. The best part is that the zeppelin with the weird birds and the octopus are credited as "Um...these guys?" As in the creators themselves weren't even sure what they were thinking with that one. That's great.

Also have figured out what I'm doing in Terraria, and I have to kill some creepy wall of flesh in order to unlock the next mode, and it is hard as hell. Tried killing it without setting up any walkways, and died pretty much instantly. I build what I thought was a sufficient platform for it, and I was wrong, as I ran into a dead-end while I was still halfway through killing it, and then died. So extended the platform, and I still keep getting killed by too much damage, so now I'm upgrading my armor. This is a lot of work.

Rhythm Heaven Fever

I rhythmed some heaven. It gave me a fever. I found a new favorite song. Well, okay, new second favorite song, in which you play a cheerleader in a library, which is kinda hilarious. I would try to explain how this song works, but it is hard, so I give up.

Rhythm Heaven Fever, Clash of Heroes

I bet that one song! I am so happy about that!

I also played Clash of Heroes, and you can all shut up! Exclamation point!

What I Played Today: February 19

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, Mage Knight Board Game, Rhythm Heaven Fever

I played some Reckoning, in which I met a fae who was being all buggy, and then I helped a bunch of dummies with their dumb problems. Some guy was too lazy to go to some ponds and get some water to pour into another pond, despite the fact that failing to do so would, according to him, break magic for all of time. What a lazy dick. Another guy just didn't want to talk to some uptight fae with fancy titles, and I can hardly blame him for that.

Also tried to play Mage Knight by myself again, and I am just cranky about how the game is initially set up to be impossible. You have to kill monsters to start getting some interesting cards, but there is not a single monster that you can take out without taking damage. And damage in this game is the worst thing ever, as it is a card that sits in your hand and you are never allowed to get rid of unless you waste time to heal the damage. And it take so much movement to get anywhere. Seriously, 5 whole movement points to step on desert during the day? If I don't have a movement card, that is my entire hand!

Also some Rythym Heaven, because it's fun and I have nothing better to do. They are getting ridiculously hard now and expecting me to make sense of some crazy dang scenarios. In one of them, they don't even tell you what you'll be doing, just some you some of those crazy drinking bird things, an octopus, and they are like, "Okay, let's go do that thing we do." Apparently that thing is fly through the air on a blimp! I didn't know you could fly blimps that way.

What I Played Today: February 18

Rift, Skyrim, Rhythm Heaven Fever

I have cancelled my Rift account, so sad, but I still played a bit today to say that I did. Mostly screwing around Ember Island, killing all those assholes. I can't believe just how steep the difficulty is from the regular islands. It's just silly how strong the monsters are here.

Skyrim! I explored Labyrintian, which is strangely straightforward and linear. Oh sure, there's a lot of windy paths, but only one way to go! Come on! Apparently the leader of the College came here at one point and totally got all his friends killed (I'd like to see the ghost images of an adventuring party where all of the members made it out alive. Also, some explanation on why I was seeing ghost images). There's also this voice that keeps talking to me and stealing all my mana constantly, it is obnoxious. Now I have to fight this huge boss and I don't even know how I'll manage.

Also hit the A button to a rhythm for what felt like hours. There is one song that I absolutely love and I am just awful at the minigame involved, so while I do get to hear it over and over again, I kinda want to get a superb on it, just once.

Rhythm Heaven Fever

I have been convinced to try out this Rythym Heaven thing, and it's quite fun! Just a bunch of goofy minigames with these superweird situations placed on top, like getting golf lessons from a monkey. I like it, but the fact that you have to do pretty well at each game before you are allowed to try the next is a bit of a bummer.
