What I Played Today: August 13

Rune Factory 4

I played a little bit of Rune Factory 4, starting over to get a feel for the game, and man, this game does not begin well. Anyway, I figured out what the point is, so I MIGHT start where I left off. Who knows? Who cares!

What I Played Today: November 3-10

MAN I was busy. There was a conference at work and I didn't feel like it and whatever, so...highlights!

I somehow ended up playing Assassin's Creed 3 for a good twenty minutes. It was kinda dumb, I don't remember what happened. Maybe I'll just YouTube what happened to Desmond.

A lot of Rune Factory 4, I'm creating a lot of stuff, and I think I need to complete the second dungeon before anything really interesting happens.

I ended up playing a CCG based on Might and Magic, as if that is still a thing that people still give a shit about. It was decent.

There's a new game called Desktop Dungeons, and it's a rogue/puzzle game, and it's pretty neat, if dumb and hard. You've got to take it slow.

I played a lot of You Don't Know Jack, because trivia is fun. Also something called QuizUp, which is also trivia. I'm the best in Tabletop Games in Minnesota, assholes.

Swords and Potions 2 continues to be a thing I do.

And I finished Analogue: A Hate Story on a whim. I did not see the last twist coming, because I'm a stupid. But yeah, good work. I like this kind of thing. Hurray this.

Rune Factory 4

I have this feeling that this game is about to blow wide open any minute now, but it still feels a bit constrained. One problem I'm noticing is that every station in the game is movable, for maximum customization, I assume, but I also don't have all that much space in my palace to actually put this stuff. The tree base in Rune Factory 3 was HUGE, and here I've got a quarter of the space and need to fit so many things into it. Where am I going to put this fucking forge, assholes? Hopefully there's a Prince action to expand my room here eventually. Right now I'm trying to build up points to buy an airship license. Hopefully that's cool.

Rune Factory 4

Did some running around in Rune Factory 4, just planting my garden and talking to pits. Weirdly, one of the characters I talked to a good dozen times already introduced herself to me? We...we met like a week ago. Remember that festival we participated in? I remember congratulating you on winning. Do you need to lie down?

What I Played Today: October 8

Rune Factory 4, Swords and Potions 2

Things are "blowing up" in Rune Factory 4, by which I mean you are having very reasonable conversations with people. I never pretended that these games were even mildly exciting. Anyway, I am able to cook and make potions and they changes how fertilizer worked and it's confusing? But yeah, pretty fun.

Also, I've been sucked into a flash game where you run a shop and are crafting stuff and also contributing to your town to get more resources and it's drawing me in and I can't stop it! I want to play this game all the time! Let me craft the shit out of rapiers! Fuck no you cannot have a short bow you know how long it takes me to make one of those? AHHHHH.

Rune Factory 4

This Rune Factory feels like a Rune Factory! I stomped off into a dungeon and beat up a butterfly and it turn into a lady. Don't pretend this is the first time you've read that sentence.

What I Played Today: October 2

Terraria, Rune Factory 4

I accidentally tricked someone else into playing Terraria with me, and we did that for a long time! We played on somebody's server and built stuff and dug underground and there is a snow level now! With penguins! Anyway, I managed to upgrade my pickaxe and axe, so things should go a little faster now.

Also, I got Rune Factory 4! And it's perfectly suitable! The UI and artwork is a lot cleaner now that they have more space on the card, and everything seems a bit more reasonable. For one thing, the field is no longer gigantic and imposing, there are maybe 48 spots to plant a seed instead of 300, and the game is a lot tighter in general.

The story is beyond stupid though. For one, the first thing you do is select your gender, except you do it in a fairly insulting way. You are asked to respond to being an airship; one response is pretty gung-ho, another is a bit timid. Because I hate gung-ho characters, I chose the timid option. Apparently choosing that option will make you a female character, because ALL women are timid and scared of heights and all men are boisterous assholes. UG. Just...just ask me what gender I want to play as.

Anyway, some bullshit happens, you fall off an airship and into a castle with a dragon, and everyone in the castle assumes you are a Prince named Arthur, who is coming to run the town. So they set you up with a cool room and give you run of the castle and then the real Prince Arthur shows and just...let's you keep being the Prince! SURE! That makes sense.
