And We're Back

Oh hey. Didn't see you there. I was just over here playing...Desktop Dungeons? That game's over a year old? Bizarre. Yeah, that's what I've been doing for the past year.

Okay, so I've fallen off and even let my domain name lapse, but over the holidays, I realized that I really wanted to start talking about games again, I really wanted to start writing again, and I kinda liked having a record of what I did every day. So I retrieved the domain name (for SOME REASON, nobody bought it) and we're going to do this again. Every day, I promise. (Well, until I get on a boat in a month, but shush.)

But what have I been doing this past year, you might be wondering? Did I really give up on playing games? Of course not. So, as a catch-up, here's an incomplete list of what I've been playing in 2014 based on my terrible memory. Ahem.

What I Played Today: November 3-10

MAN I was busy. There was a conference at work and I didn't feel like it and whatever, so...highlights!

I somehow ended up playing Assassin's Creed 3 for a good twenty minutes. It was kinda dumb, I don't remember what happened. Maybe I'll just YouTube what happened to Desmond.

A lot of Rune Factory 4, I'm creating a lot of stuff, and I think I need to complete the second dungeon before anything really interesting happens.

I ended up playing a CCG based on Might and Magic, as if that is still a thing that people still give a shit about. It was decent.

There's a new game called Desktop Dungeons, and it's a rogue/puzzle game, and it's pretty neat, if dumb and hard. You've got to take it slow.

I played a lot of You Don't Know Jack, because trivia is fun. Also something called QuizUp, which is also trivia. I'm the best in Tabletop Games in Minnesota, assholes.

Swords and Potions 2 continues to be a thing I do.

And I finished Analogue: A Hate Story on a whim. I did not see the last twist coming, because I'm a stupid. But yeah, good work. I like this kind of thing. Hurray this.

Swords and Potions 2

Man, I'm trying to play something interesting, but nope! Just sitting around playing this shitty game about swords.

GTA V, Guild Wars 2, Swords and Potions 2

I completed another region in Guild Wars 2 today. Now all I have to do is finish up the three Orr regions. Good thing that's extremely difficult to do! Oh well, at least there aren't any heart missions down there. Yeah, screw you heart missions. I am also missing a few regions that I need to find. Hurray World Completion.

Also played a good bit of GTA V, and did another heist, which involved a lot of firefighting and in the end they took all my money! AGAIN! And I've been thinking for a while that all of this bullshit where you run missions for little or no cash is a bit of a commentary on intern culture and worker compensation in today's economy, in which the average worker is expected to work for free, or for increasingly low pay, while those in power concentrate the majority of the money to themselves. And then I start to think that maybe this is too smart for this game that is still telling sexist jokes. There was also this really INSANE mission in which you just...ride a motorcycle onto a train, hijack it, and crash it to steal a weird statue. With absolutely no set-up. I find it just bizarre that very basic heists require scoping out and preparation, and then Trevor will just decide to rob something that SHOULD require a ton of set-up, and just goes with the flow. Like, if he spent just a little bit actually planning his insane hitjobs, maybe he might get out of there with some actual goods? I don't know.

I also keep playing Swords and Potions 2. These customers keep on wanting stuff that I don't have! Come on guys, I have tons of health potions. Do you want a health potion? Just buy a fucking health potion.

Grand Theft Auto V, Swords and Potions 2

I had the unhappy experience of hanging out with the most misogynist characters in Grand Theft Auto V today. One was an adrenaline junkie who cannot imagine being a "man" without a complete lunatic who jumps out of planes and BMXs down mountains, all the while shouting about how the penis is literally the only good thing in the universe and if you don't act like him, you don't have one and deserve scorn. Fuck this guy. The second was the shrill, angry, not-a-real-person female fitness nut that you can easily beat in a triathlon, which only makes her more shrill and her portrayal more sexist. Hey, hey game designers, instead of having me be a dick to these people, maybe can I refer all of them to a psychologist? Like, "Push Y to suggest they start acting like a real person and not a shitty sexist caricature." Maybe?

Oh also, Franklin can see and communicate with ghost dogs. That is all.

Also, I really really like this dumb online game in which you craft stuff and then sell them. I don't know what is going on. Swords and Potions 2 is draining my life!

Rune Factory 4, Swords and Potions 2

Things are "blowing up" in Rune Factory 4, by which I mean you are having very reasonable conversations with people. I never pretended that these games were even mildly exciting. Anyway, I am able to cook and make potions and they changes how fertilizer worked and it's confusing? But yeah, pretty fun.

Also, I've been sucked into a flash game where you run a shop and are crafting stuff and also contributing to your town to get more resources and it's drawing me in and I can't stop it! I want to play this game all the time! Let me craft the shit out of rapiers! Fuck no you cannot have a short bow you know how long it takes me to make one of those? AHHHHH.
