What I Played Today: February 23

EVE Online, Team Fortress 2, Heroes of Newerth

More dumb EVE Online stuff. I think I know enough to maybe actually go exploring, although they didn't bother to give me the skill books to actually use any real-life versions of the tools I need, so I'm actually tackling the mining intro quest as well. Producing stuff in this world is kinda dumb, but it works. Although, I did get kinda stupid and thought, "Well, I need to mine some real materials if I want to create some interesting stuff instead of just newbie stuff. Let's take this mining barge they gave me and just go to town on some tritium or whatever." So I get in my barge, go to a less than secure zone (like 0.8 instead of 1.0, where it's mostly safe but the goods are poor), jump to an asteroid belt, and notice there are pirates there. Well fuck, I didn't bring a weapon. So I jump back home, grab a weapon, jump back, and have my mining barge blown up pretty much immediately. Well, that sure was a stupid goddamn idea.

Then some of my friends were online dicking around, so I joined them. We played a few not great games of coop Team Fortress 2, I tried to be a medic and I'm not that good at it. Then again, I think it might be my computer just not being good enough. That's a possibility.

Then someone suggested that we play this crappy League of Legends knock-off, Heroes of Newerth, so we all downloaded it and all started playing, and man I ended up just goddamn hating this game. Mainly because I don't find the gamestyle all that compelling, and then they layered on a bunch of pig-headed stereotype voices for the character that just pissed me the hell off. Why is this armadillo guy sound like fucking Lenny from Looney Tunes? Why does a overexaggerated Paul Lynde voice occasionally chime in? These are poor aethetic decisions. So when they started a second game, I logged out and instead just listened in on the conversation, occasionally drunkenly singing along with my iTunes for their amusement. Had a lot more fun doing that than I would have had playing a second game.

Team Fortress 2, Magic: The Gathering

A group of people I know play Team Fortress 2 occasionally, and I joined them for a few matches before decided that I goddamn suck at Team Fortress 2 and I wasn't that interested in getting better, so I quit.

Instead I sucked at Magic: The Gathering instead. Maybe not the smartest idea to try and play the unadvanced expansion Simic deck against a fully-loaded revenge deck, because I lost early and often. I do love that snake elf though, it creates such a cool card advantage. Plus, it's a snake elf! What the hell is that?
