What I Played Today: May 29

I'm on my way out the door, so I'll tell you what I played this morning, mainly the latest, Super Mario Galaxy 2, which is about as good as they keep on talking about, although it is more a retelling of the events of Super Mario Galaxy, rather than a sequel. It plays exactly as you think it will, with jumping and jivving and what not. Still pretty decent level designs; it's obvious what you're supposed to do without feeling cramped and nitpicking.

Two things though: I hate the world map, because I've been done with world maps since 1995. It has this weird thing where you can get like 10 star bits at certain points of the map, which is stupid, because you can get 10 star bits just by running for about a minute in a regular level. Also, the main NPC from the first one, the intriguing and mysterious Rosalina, has been replaced with the fat and boringly purple star child named Lubba. Why? Was Nintendo afraid of the doujinshi? It just doesn't feel as interesting moving around the main hub, especially since it creepily looks like Mario's head.

Anyway, I'll talk to you folk after the weekend.
