What I Played Today: May 11

Marvel Heroes

Marvel Heroes has a Civil War based event. You choose a team to play on, yadda yadda yadda. These Marvel games are predictable.

What I Played Today: May 2

Marvel Heroes

This is still a thing! I am waiting patiently for the new characters, because that's what I always do. These old characters? Forget about it! What do you mean this was released a month ago? That isn't NEW, now is it? What do you mean they were new a month ago? Bah! Piddlespit!

What I Played Today: February 10

Marvel Heroes

I ended up playing a bit more of Marvel Heroes today than usual. I like that they added controller support but it is spotty at best. I have trouble going through doors, and there were a number of times when the character would get stuck in a loop and I had to use the mouse to gain control again. Also they didn't make any changes to the menu system, so the mouse is still the best way to do maintenance like selecting new powers and clearing out your inventory.

BUT I still like playing with a controller more than with a mouse, so I'm glad it was added. Hopefully they do some bug fixes so that it controls seamlessly in combat. Also Black Cat has an interesting power that is very weird, but it ended up actually mattering. She has "nine lives" meaning that every time she dies, she is raised immediately, up to NINE TIMES! The power of instant resurrection is not unheard of (Wolverine, Cable, Deadpool, etc.) but nine times? And it recharges at one life for every three minutes? Yeah, it turns out this is because she is a MASSIVE glass cannon. I ended up going through all my lives in a single encounter with a boss rush, so...interesting idea, but kind of annoying? Like, if you get trapped, you need to spend 15 minutes just recovering? Anyway, at least it gives me something to do with my medkits.

Marvel Heroes

UG...Spider-Man is really boring to play. Why do you have so many costumes, Spider-Man? When your gameplay is so dull. Oh, you do both ranged and melee attacks? Well, let me just get really excited about that, I guess.

Also, I've seen these animations like a few hundred times because I've been running with Spider-Man as my Team-Up Hero for months now.

What I Played Today: June 29

Marvel Heroes

I played a bit of Marvel Heroes, they are on their last legs of their second anniversary, and they are just giving shit away. Got myself a free Iron Man Team-Up. Getting several currencies a day. Also getting a free fortune card a day, from which I've gotten NOTHING good, but whatever. For some reason I'm playing Psylocke, because why not. Psylocke, why not?

What I Played Today: June 17

Marvel Heroes

Played a bit of Marvel Heroes, trying to get Cable to level 60. Come on Cable, get your shit together.

What I Played This Week: May 31 - June 7

Marvel Heroes, Etc.

I was not super productive this week! I helped someone move at the top of the week, and I wasn't super productive the rest of the week, and at the end I went to go hang out in Wisconsin and just...be in Wisconsin. So...that's all.

BUT, one thing of note. Marvel Heroes started its second anniversary, which includes the first stage of the Team-Up update, which gives each Team-Up Hero their own power path, and some are better at being on the field, some are better at being away, it's interesting. I started running with Wolverine, teamed up with Wolverine, and frankly the Team-Up Wolverine kicks as much ass as I do. So, that's interesting.

But yeah, glad this update has finally happened. They also made it so that respeccing your character is free forever, which is great and amazing. What a good idea! I feel sorry for anyone who ever purchased respec potions, but hey, whatever!

Marvel Heroes

I have managed to get Black Widow to level 60 in about a week and a half. I was helped by the fact that there's an Avengers event that gives an additional 50% XP, but still, I'm impressed with myself. Kinda. Black Widow has an interesting power set, where there are a lot of abilities that deal a critical amount of damage, but none of them really helpful for groups. So I managed to set up a melee set that I used to handle huge groups, and a ranged set that I used to deal with bosses and adds. It worked pretty well! The only issue I had was when I was compelled to try out the AXIS One-Shot, in which the elite Hulk-Busters ended up being stronger than most bosses I've faced so far. But otherwise, I did pretty well, and I've got a fourth level 60, which should make leveling up further heroes pretty easy from now on. Just...waiting for the Team-Up Hero update. Still waiting for it. I may have accidentally purchased three more Team-Up Heroes just in case it shows up this month.

Marvel Heroes

Hey guys, they finally added something cool to Marvel Heroes! Not just another hero who I refuse to play because every new release I see so many of them wandering around Avengers Tower that I actively avoid them! Achievements!

They actually did a really good job with achievements. There are hundreds, in all sorts of arenas, but every achievement also comes with a reward of some kind, usually a respec potion or an Omega point, or a chest with a bunch of gear in it. Then there are the achievements that give you special costumes or team-up members, like the nested set of Guardians of the Galaxy-based achievements that will eventually get you the movie version of Groot. It's really interesting! And while there are some achievements that require having a certain pet or team-up member, it appears that there are none that require you to actually spend money, which is nice. The only thing I don't like is how predicable the hero achievements are, as the last three achievements are exactly the same for each one; get all their unique items, get them to level 60, and be good enough with the hero to defeat the hardest version of Doctor Doom in three minutes. I really don't want to do the last one for each hero, for some reason. Mainly because fighting Doctor Doom is a pain in the ass no matter who you play.

Anyway, I ran around and got as many achievements as I could think of. Of, visit every hub? Done and done. Give me those retcon devices.

What I Played Today: April 17

Marvel Heroes

I guess I played enough Marvel Heroes today to bother talking about it. Nightcrawler sure is a terrible character who is about as fragile as a piece of toast. BUT I got him up to level 50, so now I get a few more bonuses to all my characters. Synergy!

What I Played Today: April 13

Marvel Heroes

I decided to finish the great Easter Egg hunt today, which was...fun? I don't know, it was fun. I managed to complete it in less time than I expected, and I forgot how OP the Silver Surfer is. Seriously, the Silver Surfer can just move around the map and kill literally everything. Go Go Silver Surfer. I'm sorry your character is so boring in general.

What I Played Today: March 5

Marvel Heroes

Apparently Iceman is now available. Hurray Iceman. Now where the hell is the Team-Up Hero update?

What I Played Today: February 23

Marvel Heroes

I guess I played Marvel Heroes today. Just being Cable. Doing some cabling. I hope the Team-Up Hero update is soon...I want to play that.

What I Played Today: February 16-19

Marvel Heroes, Marvel Puzzle Quest, Marvel Pancakes

Sorry, sorry, rough week, and I didn't play anything that was a new and interesting experience. I mostly played Marvel Heroes, in which I have been Cabling, despite the fact that Cable has a horrible power set that is impossible to improve, and Marvel Puzzle Quest, which has recently added a daily event that is really good, but involves Deadpool, which instantly makes it neutral. Oh Deadpool. When will you ever be funny? But it's cool that there's a chance I could get a three-star hero each day, because I've got a lot of three-star heroes that I can't really use without like three or four more upgrades. I like the work they do at that there Demiurge Studios.

I also played Marvel Pancakes, which...hang on, wait, that's not a thing. Why did I think that was a thing? How did that get up there? OH GODDAMNIT DEADPOOL.

What I Played Today: February 12

Marvel Heroes

Hey ho new event. This one is based on Mardi Gras. There is masks and beads. Hurray beads? But also two free visual artifacts. Those sure do take up space in my inventory! Well enough of this.

What I Played Today: February 11

Marvel Heroes

I've been playing a lot of Marvel Heroes, which seem to be in a bit of stasis at the moment, as they just released Winter Soldier as a hero (the first of the dozen heroes I'm going to receive for buying an Advance Pack), and apparently everyone hates it, because he doesn't have a melee attack? I don't know, it's stupid. There is also no event happening right now, which is weird because an event is literally always happening, so I'm kinda lost in the wind here. So I'm just randomly leveling up characters, some Captain Marvel, some Rocket Raccoon, some Thing (even though Thing still sucks). Haven't gotten around to playing any of my new characters yet. I really need to get Spider-Man already. I'm going to get a Spider-Gwen costume. SPIDER-GWEN!

What I Played Today: January 24

Guild Wars 2, Marvel Heroes

They announced the expansion to Guild Wars 2 today! Apparently there's a new class who can summon Koss's spirit or something and there will be more spells for all the classes and a huge new zone and various other nonsense I don't care about. So I logged in because I am literally five chapters behind on content. I started a mission which was pretty easy, someone's soul was put into a sword, and then it opened up the new zone, the Silverwastes, which are different than all other wastes because they are silver, I suppose. Then I got bored and logged off. Great work, self. Really making progress.

They released a Wiccan costume for Scarlet Witch in Marvel Heroes, and I couldn't convince myself not to get it. I had the money! I would get a costume that I would never use for free if I bought it now! It only makes sense! Then I realized "Oh crap, what if they release a Hulkling costume? I don't have the Hulk!" I am pretty dumb!

What I Played Today: January 17

Shadows of Mordor, Marvel Heroes

I went back to Shadows of Mordor to try to get my crap together, and it's...shaky. I am not sure how much I like a system in which the more you fail, the harder it is for you in the future. I mean, the pittance of experience you get for coming back from the dead can't compete with five or six orcs all get promotions and party hats every time I die. BUT, I finally managed to kill that one orc that will surely be my ultimate nemesis, Murgug or whatever his goddamn name is. He's a crossbow-user, and he just sits back and riddles me with arrows every time, I hate this guy. But after the third feast he had to celebrate me being dead, I snuck in, killed ALL his friends, and then beat the crap out of him while he stumbled around drunk. Fuck you, guy. And then I was swiftly killed by a Caragor, and he springs back to life, only now looks blind. Maybe that will kick some wind out of his sails. Still having no luck kill any warchiefs though. I may never kill one, who knows.

Oh, and there were free presents at Marvel Heroes, I got a free random hero, and I rolled the Punisher! I didn't have the Punisher! The only problem is that while you are playing as the Punisher, the game becomes a LOT darker than they probably intended. I mean, I know it is just goofy Diablo-style fun with superheroes, but I also know that Frank Castle has a goddamn bodycount. I'm suddenly not okay with gunning down dozens of minions! They're just criminals fallen on hard times, Frank! Please don't set them all on fire.

What I Played Today: January 15

Marvel Heroes

I've been running with Cable for a bit; he doesn't seem to have any powers. He just fires his gun, and then fires his other gun. He seems to be mainly passive, which means he kills quickly, but his area effect abilities are very limited. Also, he seems to have a power that I can't find in which he will just occasionally let off a psychic explosion when he gets hit. Good on you, Cable, for that power I guess you have.

What I Played Today: January 9

Marvel Heroes

I am at a weird place in Marvel Heroes, in which I merely leveling heroes to make it easier to level other heroes. I don't even know why I want to level these heroes, I'm just kind of doing it. But for every hero you have at maximum level, the larger the experience bonus provided to other heroes, and the more synergy bonuses provided. It's an odd cycle! I also have way too many heroes. For some reason I have Scarlet Witch, and I've never even switched to her. I'm not even sure who the Scarlet Witch is.
